Bio

Jennifer Grimm de Mello e Souza, originally from south central Virginia, has lived in Edmonds, WA with her family since 2002. Her hobbies include training her border collie and sailing on the Puget Sound. Jennie paints or sculpts almost daily in her home studio.
Jennie has been fascinated by art as far back as she can remember. As a child, art was always the activity she chose to do at home. She began to work seriously on her art when she spent a gap year studying at Abbots Bromley School in Staffordshire, UK, and visited as many art galleries and museums as she could.. Upon graduating from Franklin and Marshall College with a BA in Art and Art History, the reality of being a self-supporting artist seemed impossible. Jennie spent many years living in Brazil and France, also studying scientific illustration, printmaking, and ceramics. In 2012, she decided that if she did not try to make it as an artist, then she never would- she took a leap of faith. She dedicated a year in Brazil to studying painting, and produced a body of work that she then exhibited when she returned from Brazil. She has not stopped making art or exhibiting since then.
In Jennie's many years of art making, she has had numerous solo shows and participated in many group exhibitions. Jennie proudly sells her work locally at the Shoreline Lake Forest Park Gallery at Town Center. The online retailer Society6 sells quality reproductions of her work. Jennie has received awards for her art and has been featured in a variety of magazines and local papers. For many years, Jennie has done commissioned work and taught workshops. She currently teaches Visual Arts at a public high school.
